I (M) WEAR THE WOMEN OF MY FAMILY ON MY FINGER- EACH RING IN THE STACK IS EQUALLY IMPORTANT.
My mama’s wedding guard, a rose gold with diamond band (the first big-girl gift I ever bough for myself), a hunk of diamond ring that I made for myself, my grandmothers wedding band and a garnet pave band - my mothers birthstone.
THESE RINGS CIRCLING MY FINGER REMIND ME OF THE STRENGTH THE WOMEN OF MY FAMILY HOLD, EACH OF US DOWN VERY DIFFERENT PATHS BUT BONDED BY DNA AND SOME SHARED EXPERIENCES.
Likewise, the necklaces I put on everyday are each reminders, symbols of my family. My mother, before she died, gave me two pendant necklaces. Each are made from a cast wax seal, one meaning new life, the other encourages you to trust yourself always. On the long necklaces I also I have a small cross from my father. While I would normally never wear a cross, it is the only small trinket I have of his. Lastly, on the same chain I wear a sterling silver dogwood charm, my parents gave to me when I was a small child. My auntie, who lived in Saudi Arabia had a gold scarab I just received. My auntie was strong and independent and forged her own way through life, I strive to do the same.
WEARING THESE SMALL TRINKETS AND JEWELS, REMINDS ME TO FIND THE DEEPER MEANING IS SMALL THINGS AND TO REMEMBER MY OWN SENSE OF STRENGTH AND VALUES.
