Nothing to remember
You never have to remember to put it on, and it is much harder to lose than a clasped piece.
Permanent jewelry is a custom-fit chain (most often a bracelet, anklet or necklace) that is closed with a tiny weld
instead of a clasp. The weld takes seconds, never touches your skin, and the piece stays on until you decide to cut
it off. At Brave Daughters, an appointment takes about 10 to 15 minutes, and chains start at $55 for sterling silver
or stainless steel, $130 for solid 10k gold and $195 for solid 14k gold.
Permanent jewelry (also called forever jewelry, welded jewelry or "zapped" jewelry) is a chain that is measured to your body, cut to length, and closed with a small welded jump ring. There is no clasp to open, so the piece simply stays on.
"Permanent" describes the clasp-free construction, not an irreversible decision. You can remove the chain any time by snipping the jump ring, and we can re-weld it later.
You never have to remember to put it on, and it is much harder to lose than a clasped piece.
It is sized to you, so there is no gapping, sliding or extender chain.
Clasp-free chains tangle less and sit flat against the skin.
Best friends, mothers and daughters, couples, bridal parties, graduations, birthdays, or a
milestone you are celebrating solo.
Your appointment takes just 10–15 minutes. Here's what to expect.
Pick your metal and chain style with help from one of our stylists.
We drape the chain around your wrist, ankle or neck and size it to sit exactly how you like it.
Add charms, initials, gemstones or an engraveable connector.
A quick, painless spark fuses the jump ring closed. It only touches the metal, never your skin.
Walk out with a seamless, clasp-free piece. Resizing and repairs are available any time.
No, it does not hurt. The welder releases a tiny, fast spark aimed only at the jump ring, and it never makes contact with your skin. Most people say they barely notice it.
If you react to some jewelry, solid 14k gold is the most skin-friendly option we offer. Let your stylist know before you choose.

The metal you choose decides how your piece wears over time and what it costs. Here is how our options compare:
| Metal | What it is | How it wears | Best for | Starting price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solid 14k gold | 58.3% pure gold, alloyed for strength, gold all the way through | Will not flake, peel or wear through; the most durable and skin-friendly choice | A true forever piece; sensitive skin | From $195 |
| Solid 10k gold | 41.7% pure gold, alloyed with stronger metals, gold all the way through | Harder and more scratch-resistant than 14k, with a slightly softer gold color; will not flake or wear through | Solid gold at a lower price; active everyday wear | From $130 |
| Sterling silver | 92.5% silver | Can darken over time; brightens with a polishing cloth | A cool-toned, budget-friendly look | From $55 |
| Stainless steel | A hard, corrosion-resistant steel alloy | Very tough and low-maintenance | Active lifestyles; the lowest price point | From $55 |
Not sure? If you plan to wear the piece for years, solid 14k gold is the investment choice. Solid 10k gold gives you real gold at a lower price, and sterling silver or stainless steel is an easy way to try permanent jewelry first or build a stack.
Chain style is the biggest factor in how your piece looks, especially when you stack it. Popular styles at our welding bar include:
The most popular choice. We fit the chain loosely enough to move but snug enough that it will not catch on your hand.
Subtle and summer-ready. Think about the shoes and socks you wear most so we can size the chain comfortably.
Choose a length that sits where you love it, from a close collar to a longer drop.
The most minimal option, and usually the lowest price because they use the least chain.
At Brave Daughters, chains start at $55 for sterling silver or stainless steel, $130 for solid 10k gold and $195 for solid 14k gold. Your final price depends on four things:
Clean it now and then with warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth or soft toothbrush, then pat it dry.
Avoid long soaks in chlorine and contact with harsh chemicals, which can dull the finish.
Avoid applying lotion, sunscreen, and perfume directly on your jewelry, and rinse occasionally to clear buildup between the links.
Be mindful of snags on knitwear, hair, seatbelts and pets. Most breaks come from a sharp pull rather than everyday wear.
You can take permanent jewelry off at any time. Snip the small jump ring where the chain was welded, using household scissors or nail clippers, and keep the chain and any charms in a safe place.
If a doctor, hospital or imaging center asks you to remove jewelry for an MRI, X-ray or surgery, cut it at the jump ring and bring the chain back for re-welding.
Some workplaces and sports have no-jewelry rules. Check before you book if that applies to you.
When you are ready to wear it again, bring the chain to either studio and we will reconnect it.
We offer professional re-welding and resizing at both studios for a $20 fee. If a chain is too damaged to re-weld, we will help you choose a replacement.
1. No clasps to fiddle with and very little risk of losing it.
2. A custom fit that sits exactly where you want it.
3. Low maintenance and made for everyday wear.
4. A meaningful way to mark a relationship or milestone.
1. You will need to cut it off if a medical procedure or workplace requires it (re-welding is quick).
2. Fine chains can break if they snag hard on something.
3. Solid gold costs more up front than costume jewelry, though it is built to last.
Permanent jewelry is best shared. Small groups can book standard appointments together, and for bigger celebrations we have two options:
Founder Erin Myles opened Brave Daughters in Providence in 2018 and brought forever jewelry to Boston's Seaport, first as a pop-up and then as a permanent studio. Our team brings more than 20 years of metalsmithing experience to every weld, and the same craft is behind our fine jewelry and custom pieces. Read more about us.
At Brave Daughters, permanent jewelry starts at $55 for 14k gold-filled chains and $168 for solid 14k gold. The final price depends on the metal, chain style, length and any charms you add.
No. The weld is a quick spark that touches only the jump ring on the chain, never your skin. The whole appointment takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
With everyday care, a solid 14k gold chain can be worn for years. Gold-filled chains also hold up well with care. Most breaks happen when a chain snags, and broken chains can usually be re-welded.
Yes. Permanent jewelry is made for 24/7 wear, including showers, swimming and workouts. Avoid long chlorine exposure and harsh chemicals to keep the finish bright.
Solid 14k gold does not tarnish or wear through. Gold-filled chains keep their color for a long time with care, sterling silver can darken and brightens with a polishing cloth, and stainless steel is highly resistant to tarnish.
Cut the small jump ring where the chain was welded, using household scissors or nail clippers. Keep the chain, then bring it to either Brave Daughters studio and we will re-weld it.
Save the chain and any charms and bring them to our Boston Seaport or Dedham studio. We offer re-welding and resizing for a $20 fee.
Booking online guarantees your time, but walk-ins are welcome at both the Boston Seaport and Dedham Legacy Place studios when availability allows.
Book a 10 to 15 minute appointment at either studio, or bring the experience to your next celebration.
