How to Care For Your Forever & Clasped Jewelry
Part of wearing your magic means getting dirty with your jewelry on, especially when it's welded on! Generally, any jewelry that is worn regularly should be cleaned regularly. However, it is important to clean your pieces if they’ve been exposed to dirt, debris, or chemicals. You can do this with any of Brave Daughters’ 14KT jewelry whether it's permanently welded or clasped. This includes our rings, bracelets, necklaces, chokers, anklets, or a one-of-a-kind custom piece.. Plus, it’s gratifying to care for your pieces that celebrate a magical moment or memorable time in your life. The positive energy we put into their care is positive energy that comes back out.
If your jewelry pieces are lacking their luster, or you just want to upkeep their integrity and beauty, follow these steps to gently clean them.
1. Things to Remember
Before cleaning, recall that gold is a gentle, soft natural metal. Never use harsh cleaning chemicals and be careful when brushing or drying your pieces to avoid scratching or damaging them. This goes for gold fill, rose, white, & yellow gold.
If your pieces include any precious or semi-precious gemstones like rubies, diamonds, green onyx, or birthstones, you can use the same methods as for the gold. However, if they include pearls or opals, avoid letting them soak in water and use a soft cloth to wipe them instead.
Lastly, try not to clean your jewelry next to an open sink. If you do, cover or plug the drain to avoid any accidents.
2. Cleaning Solution
In a shallow dish, mix Dawn Dish Detergent with lukewarm, not hot, water. This will help loosen any dirt, oil, and debris, making it easy to wipe away. Let your jewelry soak in the solution for a couple of minutes, or if it’s welded to you, rinse it under running water.
3. Gentle Brushing
One by one, lay your pieces out and wipe them with a small, clean soft-bristle brush. This could be a baby-sized toothbrush! Go ahead and gently brush those semi-precious stones too; making sure to clean around their prongs and backside. Be careful not to apply too much pressure to their settings and not to hold them face down on a hard surface or counter.
4. Rinse & Dry
Now, rinse your jewelry with lukewarm or cool water. You can lay the pieces flat to air dry or pat them dry with a paper towel or soft cloth. If needed, buff your gold and gemstones lightly with a lint-free cloth.
Your jewelry will thank you by shining bright and holding strong!
